Two of the British folk scenes most accomplished performers, and winners of the 2016 BBC Radio 2 Folk Award for Best Duo, Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman have graced stages the world over in a number of guises, with a number of groups and bands.
However, their intimacy and strength of passion is shown best as a duo. Stripped back to their simple, pure talent, with an ever-evolving, eclectic, repertoire, this husband & wife couple ensure a rare treat for any listener and music-lover who is lucky enough to see them in concert.
With a story that includes over 20 years of music making with the likes of Kate Rusby, Seth Lakeman, Cara Dillon, The Levellers, Billy Bragg, Frank Turner, Imelda May, Bellowhead and Show of Hands, Kathryn and Sean have consolidated themselves as pillars of modern British folk.
The Roberts / Lakeman name has become synonymous with “quality” throughout their musical careers, which started when they were signed to a major label as teenagers. For many years, Sean was kept busy touring the world with his brother Seth Lakeman’s band, whilst Kathryn remained in Devon bringing up the couple’s twin daughters.
The pair took to the road and recording together again in 2012 and are now regarded as one of the top British folk duos working today; a claim borne out by the duos many awards and nominations.
In 2015, Kathryn was asked to join the iconic 70’s folk rock band Fotheringay thus stepping into the shoes of the late great Sandy Denny. She will tour with the band to promote their comprehensive Box Set released on Island Records.
