Mark Radcliffe & David Boardman: An Evening of Music, Mirth, and Mayhem

Prepare for a night of exceptional entertainment as Mark Radcliffe and David Boardman take the stage, bringing their unique blend of music, storytelling, and humour to our theatre.

Mark Radcliffe is a man of many talents—broadcaster, writer, and musician—whose voice has graced BBC National Radio since the early ’90s.
Currently, he hosts the Radio 2 Folk Show and weekend breakfast on BBC 6Music. Beyond the airwaves, Mark has authored five bestselling books, including Crossroads – In Search Of The Moments That Changed Music.
His musical ventures are as diverse as his broadcasting career, having been a member of folk-rock bands The Family Mahone and Galleon Blast. He is also one half of the electronic duo UNE and serves as drummer and lyricist for the Americana band Fine Lines.

David Boardman is a seasoned singer-songwriter and consummate guitarist.
He cut his teeth on the rock circuit with Darktown Jubilee, touring the UK, North America, and Canada.
A gifted visual artist, David met Mark in their hometown of Knutsford, where their writing partnership soon paid dividends.

Together, Mark and David offer an act of classic simplicity: two voices, two guitars, original songs, carefully chosen covers, and the occasional rambling anecdote. It might not sound like much, but they seem to be getting away with it… so far.

Don’t miss this opportunity to experience an evening filled with music, laughter, and the undeniable chemistry between two of Cheshire’s finest talents.

Tales and traditions of Cornish Piskies with Keith Wallis, host of the Piskie Trap Podcast

In this talk we’ll be exploring a range of weird and wonderful stories and encounters with Cornish Piskies, from tales of mischief, revenge, hidden treasures, teleportation, drinking, dancing and trips to fairy realms.

All across Cornwall, from the wild and windswept moorlands, along the beaches and coves, among the ancient carns and quoits, even from farms and cottages come stories of the Cornish Piskie. Often seen as a symbol of good luck, they can be helpful and playful, but they can also be vengeful and wicked.

We’ll be taking a closer look at these fairy folk, what we know about them from written accounts, as well as interviews with everyday Cornish people in years gone by, and asking why they play such an important part in Cornish folklore and traditions.

Keith Wallis is host of ‘The Piskie Trap’ – a podcast series exploring the folklore, history and legends from across Cornwall.
His recent work has involved a number of collaborations with leading historians, writers, folklorists and storytellers, as part of a movement to preserve local folklore traditions, and to promote Cornish history and heritage

“Attila The Stockbroker”

Attila The Stockbroker

Click Here to Book Your Tickets in advance : Standard : £10.00 (£12.00 On The Day )

Punk poet, latterly dub poet, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Attila the Stockbroker exploded into public consciousness in 1982-3 via two John Peel sessions and a Melody Maker front cover and is now celebrating 43 years earning a living doing what he loves.

So far: nearly 4000 gigs in 24 countries, some 20 CD/s LPs, eight books of poems, his autobiography ‘Arguments Yard’ (Cherry Red Books, 2015) and his collected works ‘Heart on my Sleeve’ (Cherry Red Books, 2021)

His latest album, endorsed by his old friend, the now sadly departed Ben Zephaniah, is a dub poetry collection ’40 Years In Rhyme’ with rhythms from Kingsley Salmon and What’s Left Dub, and his previous one, 2018’s ‘Restoration Tragedy’ recorded with his band Barnstormer 1649, combines early music and punk – a lifelong ambition – with tales of the English Revolution of 1649.

Attila the Stockbroker formed the band Barnstormer in 1994, with the initial aim of combining punk rock and early music, which they did to an extent on their debut album, The Siege of Shoreham, in 1996.

Then Barnstormer’s line up changed: they turned into a melodic punk band and for the next 22 years performed regularly across Europe, doing over 500 gigs and releasing three further albums, Just One Life (2000) Zero Tolerance (2004) and Bankers and Looters (2012).

In 2018, Attila, who has always been interested in the history of the radical movements spawned in the aftermath of the English Civil War, wrote and recorded an album, Restoration Tragedy on that theme, combining early music and punk. He changed the name of the band to Barnstormer 1649 (the year of King Charles I of England’s execution and the revolutionary uprisings by the Levellers and Diggers).

Attila’s current performance comprises fiery, satirical, political and personal spoken word, dub poetry, acoustic songs and early music punk on ancient instruments. He really doesn’t sound like anything else.
And his material is very, very up to date.
